Barak Itzhaki appointed as new Anorthosis Famagusta head coach
Anorthosis Famagusta has officially appointed 42-year-old Israeli coach Barak Itzhaki as its new head manager, following the departure of Nestor El Maestro. The decision follows a disappointing league start where the team secured only one victory and five losses in six matches, including a 0-1 defeat to Omonia 29th May. The club will pay approximately 50,000 euros in severance to El Maestro and his two assistants, in accordance with contractual clauses negotiated over the summer. Itzhaki, who played for the club during the 2012-13 season, signed a two-year contract and has already conducted his first training session.
The leadership transition occurred amidst high tension at the training center. Club president Christos Maragos visited the facility to issue a stern warning to the players, demanding a change in attitude and better results. Supporters also arrived to express their dissatisfaction with recent performances. Itzhaki, who previously coached Beitar Jerusalem, is now tasked with stabilizing the squad. His first match in charge will be on October 24, 2026, against Omonia Aradippou, where he will face his former teammate, Yannis Okkas, who is now managing the opposing side.
