Limassol leads construction sector growth in Cyprus for 2026
During the first half of 2026, the Limassol district emerged as the primary hub for construction activity in Cyprus, ranking first in all three major growth indicators: total licensed area, monetary value of building permits, and the number of new homes. According to data from the Statistical Service (Cystat) provided by the Limassol District Local Government Organization (DLGO), the district saw a significant surge in development, particularly in May and June.
The figures reveal that permits were issued for 3,527 new residential units in Limassol, representing 31.8% of the national total and a 61.94% increase compared to the same period in 2025. The total value of approved projects reached 853.24 million euros, up 34.54% from 634.20 million euros in the previous year. Furthermore, the licensed area in the district rose by 34.69% to 719,944 square meters, placing Limassol 87,800 square meters ahead of Nicosia. Nationwide, total permit value increased by 48.15% to 2.57 billion euros.
This growth is largely attributed to the ongoing efforts of the Limassol DLGO to expedite the processing of building applications to address the local housing shortage. The rapid development encompasses residential, commercial, and industrial projects, effectively transforming the city into a major construction site.
