Cyprus approved to test expanded cross-border medical record sharing
Cyprus has received official authorization to begin testing a new service for the cross-border exchange of clinical documents. The approval was granted to the National Contact Point for eHealth (NCPeH) by the relevant authorities, marking a significant step in the development of digital health services within the country. This expansion is integrated into the broader European Union MyHealth@EU network.
Once fully operational, the system will allow the secure transmission of comprehensive medical information between Cyprus and other participating European countries. The documents slated for exchange include hospital discharge summaries, laboratory results, detailed medical reports, and diagnostic imaging. This initiative aims to assist healthcare professionals in providing better-informed treatment to patients who require care while traveling or staying in another European nation. The service, which follows the successful completion of previous operational tests, is designed to ensure that doctors have immediate access to a patient's medical history.
While the project has reached the testing phase, the service is not yet fully available for use. The National eHealth Authority noted that this development will significantly enhance the quality of patient care by facilitating the flow of essential clinical data across borders.
