Cyprus expands cross-border digital health data exchange
Cyprus has received official approval to begin testing an expanded system for the cross-border exchange of clinical health documents. This initiative, overseen by the National eHealth Authority, integrates the country into the MyHealth@EU network, allowing for the secure transmission of comprehensive medical information between Cyprus and other participating European nations.
The new system expands beyond basic electronic prescriptions and patient summaries to include specialized clinical documentation. Specifically, it will facilitate the exchange of laboratory test results, diagnostic medical imagery, and hospital discharge reports. By providing health professionals with a detailed view of a patient’s medical history, the service aims to improve care quality for individuals seeking medical treatment outside their home country.
Following the successful completion of initial technical checks, Cyprus has now moved into the testing phase of this expanded service. While the infrastructure for this data transmission has been approved, the system is not yet fully operational for public use. Further development continues as officials work toward full implementation to enhance cross-border healthcare cooperation.
