Cyprus tax authorities extend deadline for 2025 personal tax returns
Tax Commissioner Sotiris Markides has announced an extension for the submission of personal tax returns for the 2025 tax year in Cyprus. Although the original deadline was October 31, taxpayers may now submit their returns and settle corresponding taxes and contributions by November 30 without incurring any interest or surcharges.
This decision aims to facilitate tax compliance rather than enforce penalties, particularly during the first year of new tax reforms. Under these reforms, the penalty for late filings has increased from €100 to €150. The Tax Department is managing a significantly expanded tax base, with approximately 345,000 taxpayers expected for 2025. This represents a substantial growth compared to 2016, when 245,000 returns were filed.
According to the Commissioner, the primary objective of this grace period is to encourage voluntary compliance among the public. The extension serves to accommodate the growing number of taxpayers while ensuring the department achieves its administrative goals without resorting to punitive measures for those who finalize their obligations by the new November deadline.
