Police operations lead to arrests of migrants in Nicosia and Limassol
Police in Cyprus have conducted separate operations against illegal migration, resulting in the arrest of a 22-year-old facilitator in Nicosia and 20 individuals in Limassol. On October 18, authorities in Nicosia apprehended eight people who had crossed into government-controlled areas from non-controlled territories. Subsequent investigations led to the arrest of a 22-year-old male suspect for aiding and abetting illegal entry, who was also found to be residing in the country illegally. The Nicosia District Court subsequently issued an eight-day detention order against him, while the eight migrants were transferred to the Pournara reception center.
Separately, on the morning of October 20, a coordinated operation in Limassol targeting an inn resulted in the arrest of 20 foreign nationals for illegal stay. This operation involved the Limassol Police Department, the Aliens and Immigration Service, the Fire Service, the District Self-Government Organization, and the Limassol Municipality. Authorities are currently verifying the status of two additional individuals found on the premises and are initiating deportation procedures for those arrested. Relevant municipal and utility services are investigating potential regulatory violations at the property.
