Teachers testify in court regarding the death of a minor
During the ongoing trial at the Nicosia District Court concerning the death of a minor, Stylianos, which occurred in September 2019, former teachers have provided testimony regarding the child's living conditions. One witness, S.M., described the boy as appearing neglected and unkempt during his second and third grade years, though he denied claims of school bullying. The teacher also recounted an incident where he discovered bruises on the child’s body, which were attributed to the father, and confirmed that he reported the matter to the school principal and social services.
Another witness, a special education teacher named A.S., testified that during the 2012-2013 school year, Stylianos arrived at school exhausted from performing farm labor, including tending to animals until late at night. The witness expressed deep sorrow, stating that while he anticipated the child might eventually run away from home, he did not foresee the tragic outcome. The proceedings continue with the court examining the role of parental care, potential neglect, and the responses of child welfare services.
