Regatta for Peace held in Cyprus
On Saturday, October 17, 2026, the Regatta for Peace took place in Cyprus, marking the largest amateur sailing competition ever held in the country. A total of 24 boats carrying over 120 sailors from 13 different nations participated in the race. The event, which served as the first European leg of an international roadshow ahead of the America’s Cup in Naples, was organized by the Italian Embassy in Nicosia in collaboration with the Cyprus Sailing Federation and the marinas of Larnaca and Ayia Napa.
The race commenced in the late morning at the Larnaca Marina and concluded in the early afternoon at the Ayia Napa Marina, following a 16-nautical-mile course along the southeastern coast. Participants competed in two classes using a handicap system to ensure fair competition between different boat designs. Notable winners in Class A included Typhoon (Jiovannis Pikis), followed by First Light (Robert Clunis) and Judith (Easy Suissa). In Class B, the top spots were secured by Infinity (Philippos Haralambous), St. Michael (Sergej Lysionok), and Marianna (Marios Karpis).
Larnaca Mayor Andreas Vyras and Deputy Minister of Tourism Kostas Koumis were present at the start to support the event. The regatta featured crews of mixed nationalities, with a significant number of Italian participants, highlighting the international collaborative nature of the initiative.
