Tender Review Authority faces critical staffing crisis
On October 19, 2026, Androula Stylianidou Pougiourou, President of the Tender Review Authority, addressed the Parliamentary Committee on Finance during the 2027 budget review. She highlighted a severe operational crisis caused by chronic understaffing, noting that the agency currently operates with only four active employees out of a total staff of six, as two remain on long-term sick leave.
Ms. Pougiourou emphasized that the lack of personnel has reached a breaking point, particularly regarding the ability to maintain official records during legal hearings where lawyers are present. She expressed frustration over the agency's diminished status and requested basic state support to ensure functional continuity. Furthermore, the President mentioned that the authority is awaiting developments from the European Union regarding potential legislative amendments for public procurement.
Despite the operational deadlock and lack of administrative support, the agency continues its mandate. The President stressed that while they remain committed to their duties, the current working conditions are unsustainable for an independent regulatory body.
