European Commission announces 3.8 billion euro investment for 212 green projects
On Monday, October 19, 2026, the European Commission announced a total investment of approximately 3.8 billion euros to support 212 environmental and climate-related projects across Europe. The funding is distributed through two major initiatives: 3.4 billion euros from the EU Innovation Fund for 77 net-zero technology projects, and over 390 million euros from the LIFE program for 135 environmental protection and climate action initiatives.
Three of these projects are based in Cyprus, focusing on electricity storage, the protection of endangered birds of prey, and biodiversity conservation. Notably, the Cypriot project EuniFlex VPP, managed by EUNICE Wind Park Holdings (Int) LTD, was selected for Innovation Fund support. It aims to develop a flexible virtual power platform, which will demonstrate the first commercial application of ultra-fast bidirectional DC chargers combined with battery storage systems within a non-interconnected island electricity network.
These initiatives are designed to strengthen the European industrial sector, promote climate change mitigation, and protect natural habitats. The selected projects will move forward with their respective implementations to address the environmental goals set by the European Commission.
