Ninth session of the Youth House of Representatives concludes in Cyprus
On October 19, 2026, the 9th session of the Youth House of Representatives concluded in Cyprus, focusing on critical societal issues. The youth representatives worked within five parliamentary committees to analyze pressing concerns, including the housing crisis, poverty, social inequalities, and the role of education in combating racism and nationalism. Additionally, the sessions addressed the protection of LGBTQ+ rights and the improvement of public social welfare structures.
Opening the event, House President Annita Demetriou emphasized that the initiative serves as more than an educational simulation, functioning instead as a vital democratic workshop and a communication bridge between the youth and the state. She noted that the young participants are not merely future citizens, but a driving force in society today with the right to participate in current decision-making processes.
The findings, reports, and detailed policy proposals developed by the youth committees have been formally submitted to the relevant parliamentary committees and government ministries. These documents are intended to inform official policy-making, ensuring that the perspectives of the younger generation are integrated into the national legislative agenda.
