Cyprus Consumer Protection Service flags 89 unsafe products via EU Safety Gate
The Cyprus Consumer Protection Service has announced that 89 non-food products were flagged in the European Union's Safety Gate alert system during the week starting October 12, 2026. These products were identified across various EU member states due to risks they pose to the health and safety of consumers. The Cypriot authority acts as the single point of contact for the system to ensure market surveillance and public awareness.
To manage oversight, the 89 identified products have been distributed among several relevant government departments. The Department of Labor Inspection oversees 25 items, the Consumer Protection Service handles 23, the Electromechanical Services Department is responsible for 17, and the Department of Environment covers 13. Remaining items are distributed between the Pharmaceutical Services (6), Road Transport Department (4), and Health Services (1).
Economic operators in possession of these goods are required to notify the relevant authorities immediately, and consumers are urged to check the official Safety Gate website to avoid using potentially hazardous products. The system is available in Greek for local users, providing detailed information on the specific nature of the risks associated with each item.
