Omonia faces Benfica in Europa League match at GSP Stadium

Omonia Nicosia hosts Benfica tonight, October 22, 2026, at 22:00 at the GSP Stadium for the third matchday of the UEFA Europa League League Phase. Both clubs enter the match in strong form, with Omonia having secured six points from their first two matches after victories over Celje and Celta. Approximately 14,000 fans are expected at the venue, with around 300 supporters traveling from Portugal to support the visitors.

Omonia manager Henning Berg will miss several players due to injury or European squad ineligibility, including Coulibaly, Akintola, Eiting, Kitsos, Musialowski, Odubajo, and Viktoros. Conversely, Benfica head coach Marco Silva confirmed five absences, specifically mentioning Banjaki, Enzo, Kaminski, Leandro, and Duran, while noting the necessity of squad rotation. Experts and local observers, including AEL coach Hugo Martins and APOEL player Dalcio, generally favor Benfica, citing their higher level of European experience and squad quality.

Omonia ranks third in the current Europa League form table based on recent performances, just ahead of Benfica. The match serves as a significant benchmark for the Cypriot side as they look to strengthen their position in the standings, while the visitors seek to leverage their depth despite critical personnel shortages.
