Ukrainian forces perform first-ever drone-assisted medical evacuation of a soldier
Ukrainian forces have conducted what is reportedly the world's first successful combat medical evacuation of a wounded soldier using a heavy-lift unmanned aerial vehicle. The operation involved a hexacopter drone manufactured by the Ukrainian company Gurzuf Defence and was coordinated by the Unmanned Ground Systems Unit of the 92nd Separate Assault Brigade. The soldier, a member of the 30th Separate Mechanized Brigade, was evacuated from a dangerous, heavily mined front-line position under constant threat of enemy surveillance drones.
While the exact date and location of the mission remain classified for operational security reasons, reports confirm the drone successfully transported the soldier over a distance of 18 kilometers to reach safety. This milestone signifies a major shift in tactical medical extraction methods in high-risk zones, potentially reducing the necessity to deploy personnel for risky ground rescue missions. The success of this operation highlights the increasing role of specialized, heavy-payload drones in modern warfare, as military units continue to integrate unmanned systems into complex combat rescue logistics.
