RedBird Capital and Cristiano Ronaldo in talks to acquire Al-Nassr
Gerry Cardinale’s investment firm, RedBird Capital, is currently negotiating the acquisition of a 70% stake in the Saudi football club Al-Nassr. The deal, valued at approximately $267 million, involves the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) as the seller. This proposed transaction is being driven by the club's significant financial struggles, as current reports indicate that Al-Nassr's debt has exceeded $200 million, necessitating a move toward divestment of the majority share.
A significant element of the proposal involves Cristiano Ronaldo, who has played for the club since 2023. Under the emerging plan, the Portuguese star would acquire a 20% equity stake, transitioning from his role as a player to a co-owner of the team. If finalized, this move would see RedBird Capital, which also owns AC Milan, expand its influence into the Saudi sports market while granting Ronaldo a direct say in the club's future management.
While some sources suggest the negotiations are in an advanced stage, others characterize the talks as being in their early development. No definitive agreement has been signed as of October 2026. The parties involved are expected to continue discussions regarding the club’s complex financial liabilities and the restructuring of its ownership model.
