Trial proceedings continue for the Tempi train collision tragedy
The 43rd session of the Three-Member Court of Appeals for Felonies in Larissa, Greece, continued this week to address the fatal railway collision in Tempi. The proceedings featured testimony from survivors and relatives of the victims, who called for the exemplary punishment of those responsible, characterizing the ill-fated train as a "ticking time bomb.
Survivor Aristidis Karatzounis, who was in the second carriage, described being ejected from the train during the impact and struggling to breathe after regaining consciousness in a field. Other emotional testimony was provided by Gabriela Forgian, the mother of 26-year-old soprano Elisavet Hatzivassiliou, and the mother of 34-year-old Ionel Koulea. The defendants present in the courtroom included Spyros Pateras, Apostolos Tsakiris, and Pavlos Kouzis.
This trial follows the catastrophic collision that has left families demanding justice for their lost loved ones. As the judicial process continues, the court remains focused on gathering witness accounts to determine accountability for the disaster. Further sessions are expected to follow as the legal investigation into the event progresses.
