Former deputy attorney general Loukis Loucaides pleads not guilty to embezzlement
On Tuesday, October 20, 2026, Loukis Loucaides, a former deputy attorney general of Cyprus and former European Court of Human Rights judge, appeared before the Limassol Permanent Criminal Court. He formally pleaded not guilty to charges of theft by an agent and money laundering. The proceedings concern an allegation that he misappropriated €177,108.12, which was compensation provided by the Limassol Municipality for the expropriation of a deceased woman’s property.
According to the indictment, the alleged offenses occurred between 2014 and 2026, while Loucaides was acting as a lawyer and representative for the estate’s administrator. The case originated from a complaint filed in July 2025 by the administrator, who alleged that the funds were never transferred to the estate. Loucaides has consistently denied any wrongdoing, describing the prosecution as malicious and claiming there is no crime on his part. He stated that the legal matter stems from an initial 2008 assignment to sue the municipality for compensation.
The Limassol Permanent Criminal Court has scheduled the start of the hearing for February 9, 2027. Legal proceedings will continue as both sides prepare for the trial to address the disputed funds and the nature of the financial transactions conducted during his tenure as a legal representative.
