Philip Morris International publishes 2021-2025 EU economic impact report
Philip Morris International (PMI) has released its second Economic Footprint Study, prepared by EY-Parthenon, covering the company’s contributions to the European Union between 2021 and 2025. The report highlights that the company contributed approximately €343 billion to the EU economy during this period, demonstrating the breadth of its operational and financial reach across the continent.
Key figures from the report include €22.3 billion directed to European suppliers, €27.4 billion invested in regional activities, and €39.5 billion generated through exports. Furthermore, the company’s presence in the EU supported 164,000 jobs by 2025. Marco Hannapel, President of the Europe Region at PMI, emphasized that the firm’s ongoing transformation is a significant factor in these figures, noting that by the fourth quarter of 2025, over half of the company’s net revenues in Europe originated from smoke-free products.
The study underscores the company’s impact on a wide range of stakeholders, including farmers, retailers, scientists, and local communities. This publication serves as an assessment of how the firm’s strategic shift has integrated into the broader European industrial and economic landscape as the company navigates the current period of competitive change.
