Larnaca municipality deploys drones for mosquito control
The Municipality of Larnaca has officially integrated drone technology into its mosquito control operations to access difficult terrain where conventional methods are ineffective. On Friday, October 16, the Municipal Health Service conducted a successful targeted aerial spraying operation at a location identified as a primary mosquito breeding site.
The head of the Municipal Health Service confirmed that the municipality intends to continue and expand the use of this technology. Several additional hard-to-reach locations have already been mapped both within the city of Larnaca and across its municipal districts, all requiring immediate intervention. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to bolster mosquito control efforts, specifically targeting species such as Aedes aegypti.
The municipal authorities are emphasizing a proactive approach to public health, focusing on prevention, early intervention, and systematic monitoring. Daily inspection and spraying programs are currently being executed by specialized anti-malaria and mosquito control teams to maintain sanitary conditions across the region.
