Averof Neophytou and Giorgos Pamboridis submit signatures for DISY presidential nomination
Averof Neophytou and Giorgos Pamboridis have taken the first steps toward the DISY presidential nomination for the 2028 elections. On October 22, former party leader Averof Neophytou arrived at the Pindarou headquarters with five boxes containing over 3,000 member signatures, emphasizing his broad support across the party ranks, including key officials such as party president Annita Demetriou. Conversely, Giorgos Pamboridis chose a more understated approach, submitting the required minimum of 500 signatures via a representative the following day. These submissions mark a necessary phase in the internal process leading up to the official filing of candidacies on October 26.
Public discourse remains focused on the internal cohesion of the Democratic Rally (DISY). Pamboridis has publicly urged for a clear commitment from all candidates to respect the outcome of the November 28 primary and to refrain from running as independent candidates if defeated. Meanwhile, party leadership has implemented a policy of supporting both candidates to ensure neutrality. President Anastasiades has also maintained a neutral stance, holding private consultations with both figures as the party prepares for its internal vote.
