Giorgos Pamporidis calls for accountability within the DISY party
Member of Parliament and presidential nominee hopeful for the Democratic Rally (DISY), Giorgos Pamporidis, has recently voiced strong criticism regarding party internal procedures and the current government's policy. During media appearances between October 19 and 21, 2026, Pamporidis criticized the proposal by former party leader Averof Neofytou concerning the potential lifting of sanctions against Russia, emphasizing that Cyprus must prioritize its European commitments. He also underscored the importance of respecting internal party results, noting he personally witnessed commitments made by former leadership to uphold democratic outcomes.
Regarding the 2023 presidential elections, which left a deep rift within the party, Pamporidis addressed suggestions by former President Nikos Anastasiades for a pre-agreement between DISY and current President Nikos Christodoulides for the second round of future elections. Pamporidis asserted that any reconciliation between Christodoulides and DISY would require the President to issue an apology to the party’s supporters for his decision to run independently in 2023. He signaled his opposition to political horse-trading, stating that he would prioritize party principles over seeking power at any cost. As the internal election process continues, Pamporidis remains focused on the need for political transparency and a principled approach to potential alliances.
