Averof Neofytou prepares for DISY leadership bid
Former Democratic Rally (DISY) leader Averof Neofytou is expected to officially announce his candidacy for the party’s presidential nomination in the coming days. The decision follows a month-long period of speculation during which Neofytou remained silent on his intentions. On October 20, he fueled rumors by posting a photograph of himself in front of a camera with the caption "A very important day," signaling that his political move is imminent.
Formal nominations for the internal party contest are scheduled for October 26, with the electoral congress set to take place on November 28. The race for the party’s nomination is anticipated to be a contest between Neofytou and Giorgos Pamborides. Meanwhile, the political landscape within DISY remains highly fluid, with observers noting that current leader Annita Demetriou is building strategic ties with President Christodoulides, while internal power dynamics are shifting as key figures maneuver for influence during this transitional period.
