First structured dialogue meeting held regarding British Bases in Cyprus
On October 20, 2026, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cyprus and the British High Commission held the inaugural meeting of a newly established structured dialogue process. This initiative aims to address practical issues regarding the operation of British Bases on the island through a formalized framework of bilateral cooperation.
The discussions are intended to intensify communication between the two parties to resolve daily concerns affecting Cypriot citizens and residents living in the areas impacted by the British Bases. By creating this structured foundation, both governments seek to provide more effective and systematic solutions to administrative and practical challenges that arise in these communities.
This dialogue represents a formal step toward enhancing coordination between Cyprus and the United Kingdom. While the initial meeting served to set the process in motion, both sides are now committed to the ongoing assessment and resolution of community-level issues on a regular basis, following the establishment of this new diplomatic mechanism.
