Larnaca Criminal Court postpones trial in major fraud and extortion case
The Larnaca Permanent Criminal Court has postponed the trial of four individuals accused of defrauding a 77-year-old man of tens of thousands of euros. The defendants, including two businessmen aged 44 and 42, a 49-year-old inmate, and a 45-year-old woman, appeared in court on October 20, 2026. The proceedings were adjourned until October 30, 2026, after defense attorneys requested additional evidentiary material. On that date, the defendants are expected to enter their pleas regarding the charges filed against them.
The case stems from a formal complaint by the victim, who alleges he was subjected to years of pressure, threats, and financial exploitation by a group operating in an organized manner. According to previous court hearings, the dispute originated from multimillion-euro real estate transactions. Following those initial deals, the complainant reportedly paid large sums of money for alleged investments, business partnerships, and various personal matters under duress. The prosecution's case centers on allegations of extortion, systemic threats, and fraudulent financial demands. The court has maintained the current timeline, awaiting the completion of document discovery before moving to the plea stage.
