Netanyahu pushes for regime change in Iran amid diplomatic and military tensions
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has declared the removal of the Iranian regime as his country’s primary strategic objective, describing Tehran as the head of a "poisonous octopus." Netanyahu stated that he is in constant coordination with U.S. President Donald Trump, confirming they discussed this goal during a phone call on October 18. The Prime Minister argued that toppling the leadership in Tehran is the only way to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, rebuild regional stability, and ensure peace with Lebanon, as Hezbollah would collapse following the regime’s fall. He has reportedly directed the Mossad and the Israel Defense Forces to work toward this end.
Financial Times reports, citing three sources, that Israel had planned a massive, multi-day military campaign against Iranian nuclear, military, and civil infrastructure for the weekend of October 10. However, President Trump allegedly opposed the operation to avoid an escalation before the November 3 U.S. midterm elections. While Netanyahu continues to warn that Iran is attempting to influence the upcoming Israeli elections, the status of potential future strikes remains unclear as regional instability persists.
