Greek parliament removes asset declarations after data leak
On October 20, 2026, the Greek House of Representatives temporarily removed members' asset declarations from the Special Committee's website. The withdrawal occurred after sensitive financial data, which is protected under current legislation, was inadvertently published during the digital filing process. The Parliament confirmed the error, noting that the leaked information was strictly prohibited from disclosure, rendering any further reproduction illegal.
Following the breach, the Data Protection Authority intervened to limit the spread of the exposed personal data. The Authority has requested the removal of the sensitive files and related links from all websites where the data remained accessible. Under Article 33 of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the House is now required to formally report the data breach within 72 hours of its discovery.
The Data Protection Authority is currently evaluating the circumstances and scale of the incident. It will also review the remedial measures taken by the Parliament to protect privacy. The asset declarations are expected to be republished on the official website once the administrative errors are corrected and all prohibited sensitive segments are properly redacted.
