President Christodoulides addresses infrastructure funding and regional development
President of the Republic Nikos Christodoulides has emphasized the state's fiscal capability to fund major development projects across Cyprus, including critical infrastructure in Limassol. Speaking at the 40th-anniversary gala of the Agios Athanasios Industrialists Association, the President responded to concerns from local mayors and the Limassol Chamber of Commerce regarding the 2027 state budget. He stated that the government has allocated over €3.5 billion for the next programming period, citing Cyprus's strong economic growth, which he noted is three times the European average.
To access these funds, President Christodoulides urged local authorities, including municipalities and regional self-government organizations, to accelerate the planning and maturity of their project proposals. Key infrastructure priorities highlighted by the government include the northern bypass and the second phase of the Saitas-Troodos road project. Additionally, the President and Interior Minister Konstantinos Ioannou have emphasized that rural and mountain communities remain high priorities, supported by ongoing project inaugurations and infrastructure upgrades across the island intended to improve citizens' daily quality of life.
