Cyprus police conduct nationwide crime prevention patrols
During overnight operations between October 20 and 22, 2026, the Cyprus Police conducted a series of coordinated, nationwide patrols in urban areas to prevent serious crime and enhance public security. These preventive efforts included vehicle stops, building inspections, and extensive traffic enforcement. One individual was arrested for the possession of burglary tools and stolen property.
Police reports vary regarding the exact scope of operations across different days. Early reports from October 21 indicated that officers stopped 441 vehicles, checked 552 people, and inspected 35 premises. Traffic enforcement led to 247 reports, including 43 for speeding, seven vehicle impoundments, and six alcohol-related offences. Additionally, three out of six preliminary drug tests returned positive results. Later reports covering the following night indicated slightly different figures, citing 563 vehicle checks, 654 people checked, and 175 traffic reports, 81 of which were for speeding, with two vehicles impounded.
Police officials confirmed that these preventive measures are part of an ongoing strategy to maintain public order. Increased patrols and targeted checks are expected to continue on a daily basis as part of the department’s operational commitment to public safety.
