Fire and rescue drill held at Nicosia General Hospital
The Cyprus Fire Service conducted a fire and rescue exercise on Thursday, October 22, 2026, at the Nicosia General Hospital. The drill, which began at 11:20 a.m., involved fire stations from across the Nicosia district to test operational readiness and coordination.
Organized in partnership with the State Health Services Organization (OKYPY), the simulation focused on a fire outbreak in the second-floor orthopedic ward. During the drill, hospital staff performed emergency procedures, including alerting the fire department and relocating patients to safe areas. Personnel from the ambulance service and the Cyprus Police also participated in the operation to practice multi-agency cooperation in the event of a fire within a medical facility.
Authorities had issued prior warnings to the public to expect increased firefighting equipment presence around the hospital, clarifying that there was no cause for alarm as the activity was entirely planned as part of regular safety training for public facilities.
