Two incidents of child neglect reported in Greece
Two separate cases of children wandering unsupervised were reported in Greece between October 20 and 21, 2026. In Arta, a 3.5-year-old toddler was found alone on a sidewalk by a passerby who notified the Hellenic Police. Investigation revealed the child had wandered away from the grandfather, who had been tasked with supervision. Both the grandfather and the child's father, who surrendered to authorities, were arrested on charges of child endangerment.
In a second incident in Triandria, Thessaloniki, a 3-year-old boy was found wandering alone in an outdoor area after leaving his home unnoticed. A local citizen discovered the child and contacted the police. Following the incident, the boy's 39-year-old mother was arrested by the Hellenic Police on the same charge of child endangerment. Both cases are currently being processed by the judicial authorities in their respective regions as part of formal legal proceedings.
