Cyprus records fiscal surplus of 1.36 billion euros for 2025
The Cyprus Statistical Service (Cystat) released its fiscal results for 2025 on October 21, 2026, confirming that the country maintains a robust economic position. The data, which has been verified under the European Commission's Excessive Deficit Procedure, shows a fiscal surplus of 1.36 billion euros, representing 3.6% of GDP. This reflects a slight decrease from the 1.445 billion euro surplus (4.0% of GDP) recorded in 2024.
Total government revenue for 2025 reached 15.895 billion euros, marking a 7.7% increase compared to the previous year. Expenditures also rose by 9.2% to 14.535 billion euros, driven in part by a 7.6% increase in public sector payroll costs, which totaled 4.17 billion euros. Additionally, social contributions grew by 8.4% to reach 4.899 billion euros.
Despite the rise in spending, the country's public debt decreased to 20.053 billion euros, now equivalent to 52.3% of GDP. These indicators suggest a stable fiscal trajectory for the Cypriot economy as it continues to align with European financial reporting standards.
