Sixth arrest in Limassol armed robbery case as stolen jewelry recovered
A 24-year-old man was arrested in Limassol on October 22, 2026, marking the sixth apprehension in connection with a violent home invasion that occurred on October 8, 2026. The suspect, who was detained while attempting to retrieve stolen goods, has been remanded in custody for six days. Police successfully recovered approximately 70 items of jewelry and gold, valued at over €300,000, which had been hidden at an unsuspecting citizen's residence with the intent of being smuggled out of Cyprus.
The incident involved five masked intruders who broke into a home in Sfalagiotissa, where they bound a 43-year-old man and threatened his 36-year-old wife with knives and a pistol to access a safe. The robbers stole €5,000, US$1,000, and the gold items before fleeing. CCTV footage captured the suspects, who were identified as being of Syrian origin, entering the premises twice on the night of the robbery. While the jewelry has been identified by the victims, the cash remains missing. Five other suspects, all Syrian nationals aged 20 to 29, were previously arrested on October 20 and remain under an eight-day detention order. Authorities are actively searching for three additional suspects.
