Dust episodes and changing weather forecast for Cyprus
The Cyprus Department of Meteorology has reported that the island is entering a period of intermittent dust episodes originating from Syria and Lebanon. While these dust concentrations are expected to remain relatively low and not significantly affect air quality, spokesperson Andreas Chrysanthou noted that such frequent occurrences at this time of year are unusual. The island will experience mostly clear and warm weather through the weekend, with temperatures reaching up to 29°C in inland and coastal areas, which is slightly above seasonal norms.
Looking ahead, weather conditions may undergo a significant change starting from the middle of next week. Meteorologists anticipate a potential return of rain and thunderstorms, though there is currently uncertainty regarding the intensity and exact timing of these shifts. While some sources suggest a notable decline in weather stability, others indicate that the evolution of barometric systems makes definitive long-term predictions difficult. Residents can expect the current dust to persist through the weekend before potentially subsiding by Monday, followed by the transition to a more unstable meteorological environment next week.
