Paris braces for new protests and trade union strikes
Paris is preparing for a new wave of protests this coming Saturday, following widespread clashes and looting that occurred last weekend. The Yellow Vest movement has informed police of their intention to march from the Bastille to the Opera district between midday and late afternoon. Their core demands include the freezing of prices for essential goods, petrol, and natural gas. Authorities have not yet confirmed if they will authorize this route or suggest an alternative, and security concerns have already led to the cancellation of professional football matches in Toulouse and Bordeaux.
Simultaneously, French trade unions have met with the prime minister to coordinate a national general strike scheduled for November 5. Sophie Binet, leader of the CGT union, has officially called upon students and school pupils to join these industrial actions. The upcoming weekend protests remain highly sensitive as organizers and officials work to avoid a repeat of the recent violence that marred the capital.
