Ongoing efforts to modernize public works procurement framework in Cyprus
Delays in the implementation of public projects in Cyprus remain a persistent problem, impacting economic development, labor markets, and the timely delivery of vital infrastructure. These delays often result in increased overall costs, prompting stakeholders to call for a comprehensive review of the entire project lifecycle, from initial design to final completion.
In response to these systemic issues, the Federation of Building Contractors Associations of Cyprus (OSEOK) has been engaged in formal discussions with the Treasury of the Republic for several months. The primary objective of these negotiations is to modernize the existing regulatory framework governing public contracts to eliminate long-standing administrative and procedural pathologies.
Currently, the talks between OSEOK and the Treasury are ongoing. Both parties aim to reach a consensus on substantial changes that would streamline project management and improve efficiency in the construction sector. While no specific legislative timeline was announced, the federation expects these collaborative efforts to lead to definitive improvements in how public works are executed in the future.
