Trial for the murder of Yiannis Argyrou enters final stages in Limassol
The Limassol Criminal Court has concluded the presentation of evidence in the trial of a 52-year-old man accused of the premeditated murder of 45-year-old Yiannis Argyrou. The victim was fatally stabbed 19 times in the garage of his apartment building during the early hours of May 4, 2025. On October 21, 2026, the court heard the final testimony from a 47-year-old prosecution witness, who is a former defendant in the case. During her cross-examination, which lasted over five hours, the witness claimed that the accused admitted to the crime immediately after the incident, while the defense suggested that the witness herself committed the murder to remove the victim from her life.
Following the completion of the testimony, the court ruled that a prima facie case has been established. Defense attorney Elena Frangou announced that the accused will not call any defense witnesses and will exercise his right to remain silent. Both the prosecution and the defense have requested additional time to prepare their closing arguments. The trial has been adjourned until mid-December, at which point the final legal arguments will be presented to the court.
