Cypriot leaders schedule new talks for October 27
President Nikos Christodoulides and Turkish Cypriot leader Tufan Erhurman are scheduled to hold their next meeting on October 27, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. under United Nations auspices in the Nicosia buffer zone. Following their private discussion, the two leaders will engage in a joint session with the Technical Committees on Youth and Cultural Heritage, alongside the coordinating committee of the Civil Society Advisory Body. These discussions aim to foster communication and support for cross-community cooperation.
Negotiator Menelaos Menelaou stated that while problems regarding the Pyroi crossing routing have been resolved, a significant impasse remains over the Turkish Cypriot demand to include the Louroujina–Lympia crossing, which has not been reconciled with the Greek Cypriot proposal for a crossing at Kokkina. Tufan Erhurman has reportedly rejected a prior proposal involving the opening of the fenced-off area of Varosha and the port of Famagusta. These developments occur as the sides prepare for the upcoming visit of UN personal envoy Maria Angela Holguin on October 29 and a planned tripartite meeting on November 9, as efforts continue to determine the methodology and future of the Cyprus peace initiative.
