Diplomatic efforts continue in Cyprus ahead of leaders' meeting
Greek Cypriot negotiator Menelaos Menelaou reported progress in the Cyprus peace process, noting that obstacles regarding the routing of the Pyroi crossing point have been resolved. However, discussions remain stalled over a Turkish Cypriot demand to include a crossing between Louroujina and Lympia, which has not yet been reconciled with the Greek Cypriot proposal for a crossing at Kokkina. President Nikos Christodoulides has presented new proposals to Turkish Cypriot leader Tufan Erhurman, including one that was already rejected by the latter.
In preparation for further negotiations, negotiators Menelaos Menelaou and Mehmet Dana are scheduled to meet on Monday, October 26, 2026. This follows the consecutive meetings between President Christodoulides and Tufan Erhurman on October 13 and 20. The leaders are also expected to hold a follow-up meeting likely on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, though official confirmation is pending. Additionally, a meeting between President Christodoulides and a UN envoy from Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is set for October 30. Despite earlier commitments to engage with technical committees on youth, cultural heritage, and civil society, no specific dates have been finalized for these sessions.
