France on high alert ahead of new mass protests
French security forces are on high alert ahead of upcoming mass demonstrations scheduled for this weekend. Following recent violent outbreaks and widespread property damage, authorities have implemented strict security measures, including a heavy police presence and support from the military in Paris and other major cities. President Emmanuel Macron has convened a meeting to finalize an operational plan to maintain order during the protests.
Nighttime curfews have been enforced in cities including Lyon, Nice, and Marseille, with the measure in Nice specifically extended until October 26. In Paris, public gatherings are banned after 8:00 p.m., while a curfew is in effect from 11:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. at the Place de la Republique. Meanwhile, opposition parties on the French Left have accused the Minister of the Interior of pressuring intelligence agencies to shift blame for the recent violence onto leftist groups, further escalating political tensions.
