Ukraine gains access to NATO's central procurement agency
On October 22, 2026, it was reported that Ukraine has been granted access to NATO’s central procurement mechanism, the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA). This strategic development will allow Kyiv to purchase weapons, ammunition, and other defense equipment more efficiently, benefiting from faster supply chains and reduced costs compared to previous procurement methods.
Jacqueline Borsboom, head of the NSPA, stated that this integration provides Ukraine with a structured framework to leverage the organization's expertise, support services, and established industrial base. Previously, Ukraine relied primarily on individual bilateral agreements with allied governments and specialized military aid programs to meet its defense requirements. By utilizing the NSPA, Kyiv gains access to a broader, more organized network of defense industry partners across member states, streamlining the acquisition process during the ongoing conflict with Russia.
The inclusion of Ukraine in the agency's procurement framework marks a shift toward more institutionalized support. This arrangement is expected to provide a more stable and reliable method for Kyiv to secure necessary military supplies as the war continues.
