Cyprus and Egypt complete joint maritime security training at CYCLOPS
Personnel from the Cyprus Navy, maritime police, and the Egyptian Navy and Border Guard Corps have completed two specialised maritime security training courses. The sessions were conducted at the Centre for Land, Open Seas and Port Security (CYCLOPS) in Larnaca, Cyprus, and concluded around October 21, 2026.
The training focused on enhancing operational readiness and interoperability, specifically covering Visit, Board, Search and Seizure (VBSS) procedures and Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) threat responses. The completion ceremony was attended by Cyprus Justice Minister Costas Fytiris, the commander of the Egyptian Border Guard Corps Major General Osama Daoud, the Egyptian Ambassador to Cyprus Mohamed Zazou, and the Egyptian Defence Attaché Colonel Mohamed Garbia.
This initiative reflects the ongoing efforts between Nicosia and Cairo to strengthen bilateral cooperation in regional security and intelligence exchange. The training serves as a strategic move to address common maritime risks and foster closer institutional ties between the two nations' armed forces and security services.
