AEK Athens returns to domestic league action against Panetolikos

AEK Athens returns to domestic duties on October 24 at 20:00, hosting Panetolikos at the Allwyn Arena for the 8th round of the Stoiximan Super League. The team seeks to bounce back following a challenging nine-day period in England, during which they suffered two Champions League defeats: 3-1 against Shakhtar in London and 5-1 against Manchester City. Coach Marko Nikolic is focused on managing squad fatigue and regaining domestic momentum after a two-week absence from league play.

For the upcoming match, AEK will be without midfielder Lovro Majer due to a suspension, with Oleksandr Zubkov expected to step into the starting lineup. Questions remain regarding the fitness of goalkeeper Thomas Strakosha and the availability of Zini, who is dealing with a shoulder injury. Defensive rotations are expected to be limited for this fixture to maintain continuity, though changes are anticipated for the upcoming challenging stretch.

The team faces a demanding schedule over the next eight days, including a Superbet Cup match against PAOK at Toumba on October 28, a league derby against Panathinaikos on November 1, and a Champions League clash against Real Madrid on November 4.
