Anorthosis appoints Barak Itzhaki as new coach
Anorthosis Famagusta has officially appointed Barak Itzhaki as its new head coach, marking a significant managerial shift for the club. The decision follows a dismal start to the 2026-2027 season, during which the team managed only one win in six matches, resulting in the departure of former coach Nestor El Maestro. Itzhaki, who previously played for the team during the 2012-2013 season, is tasked with stabilizing the squad and improving its position in the league standings.
The 42-year-old Israeli coach makes his debut on October 24, 2026, in a home match against Omonia Aradippou at the Freedom Antonis Papadopoulos Stadium. The opposing team is led by Giannos Okkas, a former teammate of Itzhaki at Anorthosis. Due to his late arrival, Itzhaki has had limited time to implement his philosophy, though he has already made tactical adjustments to the starting lineup, including the exclusion of Bergstrom and Fan Dijk due to fitness issues, while hoping for a positive impact on player morale.
The club remains under intense pressure from management and fans to secure immediate results. Following this seventh-round fixture, Anorthosis is scheduled to face Aris Limassol away on November 1, 2026.
