Barak Itzhaki takes over as Anorthosis Famagusta head coach
Anorthosis Famagusta has officially appointed Barak Itzhaki as its new head coach following the departure of Nestor El Maestro. The decision comes after the team suffered a dismal start to the current season, managing only one victory in six league matches and sitting at the bottom of the standings. The club administration hopes that Itzhaki, a former player who represented the team during the 2012-2013 season, can rectify the squad's poor performance and improve their overall standings.
Itzhaki’s debut as coach is scheduled for October 24, 2026, at 19:00, when Anorthosis hosts Omonia Aradippou at the Antonis Papadopoulos Stadium for the 7th round of the championship. The match holds particular significance as the opposing side is managed by Giannos Okkas, a former teammate of Itzhaki with whom he shared the pitch during the 2012-2013 campaign. While Itzhaki’s playing debut for Anorthosis in 2012 was marked by an early expulsion in a match against Enosis Neon Paralimniou, the club is now pinning its hopes on a successful managerial start to revive their season.
Club officials, including Parpettas, have emphasized that the responsibility for the team's current state is collective, noting that Itzhaki understands the stature and expectations associated with the Anorthosis brand.
