Fire service rescues two dogs in Paphos and Larnaca
The Cyprus Fire Service successfully completed two separate animal rescue operations in recent days, assisting dogs trapped in distinct locations across the island. Fire service spokesman Andreas Kettis reported that the first incident occurred in the Farangia area of Kato Akourdaleia in the Paphos district, where a dog was extracted from a gorge and returned to its owner.
The second rescue took place in the Dromolaxia-Meneou municipality within the Larnaca district, after a passer-by discovered a dog trapped inside a pit and notified the authorities. Following the successful recovery of the animal, the fire service handed the dog over to the local municipality.
As a direct consequence of the second incident, the Fire Service issued a formal recommendation to the Dromolaxia-Meneou local authority to secure the pit. They urged the municipal officials to implement safety measures to prevent similar dangerous occurrences in the future. These events highlight the ongoing role of the Fire Service in animal rescue operations alongside their primary duties of fire suppression and emergency response.
