Panathinaikos dominates Kairat Almaty in Conference League victory

On October 22, 2026, Panathinaikos secured a decisive 5-1 away victory against Kairat Almaty in Kazakhstan during the second matchday of the UEFA Conference League. The win, which keeps the Greek side perfect with two victories in two matches, moved Panathinaikos to the top of the league phase standings.

Panathinaikos opened the scoring through Vicente Taborda in the 6th minute. Cyril Dessers added two goals (24th minute penalty and 47th minute), while Kings Kangwa and Elmin Rastoder also found the net in the 57th and 75th minutes respectively. Kairat managed only a consolation goal by Bekbolat in the 79th minute. This performance marks the first time in 25 years that the club has achieved consecutive matches with at least five goals scored, following a similar 5-1 result against Asteras Aktor in domestic play.

Following this win, Panathinaikos currently holds the top spot in the Conference League rankings due to a superior goal difference. The team is now preparing for domestic duties against Volos on October 25, before hosting CSKA Sofia in the Conference League on November 5, with projections suggesting a 47.9% chance of securing a top-eight finish in the competition.
