Israeli and Cypriot foreign ministers discuss maritime memorandum
On October 22, 2026, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar held a telephone conversation with his Cypriot counterpart, Constantinos Kombos, to address regional stability. During the call, the two officials focused on the Turkish-Libyan maritime memorandum, which Saar characterized as a move that undermines the rights and interests of several countries in the Eastern Mediterranean. Minister Kombos reportedly expressed his agreement with the Israeli official's assessment of the deal.
Beyond the territorial dispute, the ministers reviewed bilateral relations between Israel and Cyprus, as well as the broader ties between Israel and the European Union. Saar emphasized his commitment to further strengthening the cooperation between the two nations. Following the discussion, it was noted that Minister Kombos also engaged in separate talks with the Foreign Minister of Saudi Arabia, with the Turkish-Libyan agreement remaining a central topic of discussion in those communications as well.
