No more blood for a daily wage: PEO calls for the implementation of safety measures in the workplace

The trade union PEO organized a demonstration at the Ministry of Labor to demand stricter safety measures in workplaces following a spike in occupational accidents. During the first half of 2026, Cyprus recorded five fatal incidents and over 1,200 total workplace accidents, particularly in construction and manufacturing. PEO officials urged for better enforcement of safety legislation, increased inspections, and mandated training, noting that 41% of Cypriot workers report work-related mental health issues.
