Cyprus Health Minister addresses diabetes awareness event in Limassol
On Thursday, October 22, 2026, the Cypriot Minister of Health, Neofytos Charalambidis, participated in an event held in Limassol by MedicAlert Cyprus, focusing on diabetes and obesity awareness. During his address, the Minister emphasized the Ministry's responsibility to prioritize the voices and needs of patients.
Citing data from the 2025 International Diabetes Federation Atlas, Minister Charalambidis highlighted that over 106,000 adults aged 20 to 79 in Cyprus are currently living with diabetes. A significant concern raised is that more than one-third of these individuals remain undiagnosed. The Minister praised the work of the MedicAlert Foundation, noting that its identification emblems provide critical medical data—such as chronic conditions, severe allergies, or ongoing treatments—to healthcare professionals during emergencies when patients are unable to communicate.
The event served as an acknowledgment of the contributions made by the foundation's volunteers, members, and Honorary President Andreas Mylonas. The discussion underlined the essential role of assistive technology in bridging information gaps in medical crises.
