Anti-poaching operation in Paphos results in seizures
On the morning of Friday, October 23, 2026, authorities in the Paphos district conducted a coordinated operation to combat poaching. Acting under judicial warrants, officers from the Game and Fauna Service collaborated with the anti-poaching unit of the Rapid Response Motorised Unit (MMAD) to perform targeted searches across three residential properties.
During the inspections, law enforcement officials recovered a recently killed hare, seven plucked birds, and 38 cartridges of a prohibited type. These findings indicate illicit hunting activity, prompting the authorities to document the evidence for further action. No specific suspects were named, but the materials were seized as part of the investigation into illegal wildlife trade and hunting violations.
The Game and Fauna Service, in conjunction with the Cyprus Police, emphasized that this operation is part of an ongoing initiative to prevent and suppress all forms of illegal hunting. Officials have stated that these targeted checks and coordinated enforcement efforts will continue across the region to ensure environmental law compliance and the protection of wildlife populations.
